Welcome to the Dolmenwood

Intrigue of all kinds lurks beneath the forest’s eaves, enabling adventures of serious depth or frivolous fun. The Dolmenwood encompasses a swathe of tangled woods, fungus-encrusted glades, and fetid marsh on the wild borders of civilization. In this beguiling realm, the magical and otherworldly are always close at hand.Standing stones loom in hallowed glades, graven with sigils of deep magic. Ley lines pulse within the earth, their potent arcane energy tapped by greedy sorcerers. Secret doorways allow passage to perilous fairy roads, for those charmed or blessed by the lords of Elfland. No matter what you find under these boughs, little here is as it seems. We will make our home in the border city of Edgewood.Edgewood is nestled into a little crook in the southwest of The Dolmenwood, bordered on the north and east by the forest. It's a large-ish place, where the more civilized and educated South melds with the more quaint and superstitious inhabitants of the wood.Folk here are largely friendly and open, willing to overlook things that seem "weird", because it's easy to write it off as "those weird folk from the (South/Woods), you know how they are." You'll find Grimalkin, Breggle, and Mosslings here on occasion, as well as occasional folks from the wider worlds to the South, but mostly this is a human city. The usual types of elves and dwarves from the wider world mostly live in the Hound's Ward, as part of the commerce of the city. Other races are rarer, but the Edgelanders tend not to be overly fussed with unusual travelers. With all that is known of the Cold Prince, it may be elves that are looked at the most cautiously, but his machinations have not been heard in some time.Edgewood is divided into wards, the three most notable of which are defined by the presence of the three gates that lead into and out of the fortified city walls:Wolf's Gate to the north, on the road towards Lake Longmere.
Stag's Gate on the main road to the East, into the woods towards Dreg and Shantywood
Hound's Gate leads to the southwest, on the roads into the fields and farmlands, eventually to the sea.
But there is an additional gate, with a small ward named after it - Mossgate is a small gate in the Northeast that doesn't have much of a road, but leads to a stone circle that is in a clearing just inside the wood. The Mossward is a peculiar place, better left to future conversations.Edgewood Keep looks over the majority of the city, and they say that from the height of the towers, on a clear day, you can see all the way to the sea to the west, and to Castle Brackenwold to the east. Commerce here mostly happens in the Trader's Market that occupies a large portion of the western side of the city.Located as it is, at an intersection of the farmland and the forest, there is always a lot of bustle in Edgewood - but word has been growing that stranger things than usual are popping up in the city, drawing in cautious glances towards the Stag's Ward as rumors bubble about enchantments that sounded a lot like the Witches had been involved. But all that aside, it is at the intersection of the Wolf Ward and the Trader's Market that we find ourselves tonight, at a bustling tavern. The sign outside bears a carving of a discarded pair of boots, and the gold leaf on the lettering pronounces it The Wayfaring Stranger. The glow inside is warm and welcoming, and the smell of good, hearty food wafts up from the two chimneys.Let's go inside and see who, and what, we can find . . .

The Evening's End

Thus, ends the night with our intrepid . . . "adventurers?" . . . sitting at a table in the common room of The Wayfaring Stranger, entertaining Bailey the Wolfhound, and discussing what the fuck Dayle is on about with this whole curse business. The table so far is Dayle himself, along with Auntie Bea (and her tea set), Cleric, Singer (and his guitar) and a woman whose name has yet to be revealed . . .

In the room with them are an assortment of patrons one might find on any given night on the first day of Spring, a foggy, rainy night, with Aislinn and Leotalor manning the bar and a curious grimalkin woman keeping an eye on the place with a mug of something that's definitely not beer.
